Backwoods Barter exists to create a trusted, easy-to-use platform for buying and selling used hunting, fishing, hiking and camping gear — giving outdoor enthusiasts a better way to recycle quality equipment and discover affordable gear. We’re passionate about supporting both individuals looking to offload unused gear and small outdoor businesses that may not have the resources to build their own online store.
In every transaction, we’re also giving back. 1% of every purchase is donated to the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) and Texas Wildlife Association (TWA) — organizations that protect the lands, waters, and wildlife we all enjoy. By making gear more accessible and supporting conservation, we’re helping preserve the outdoors for generations to come.

Sam Hauglum, Owner & Founder of Backwoods Barter, is a dedicated outdoorsman who loves hunting and fishing. Initially frustrated by the lack of stores specializing in used thermal scopes and optics, he saw a greater need for a trusted marketplace where hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts could buy and sell quality used gear and services. That vision led to the creation of Backwoods Barter—a platform designed to make buying and selling outdoor equipment and services secure, easy, and community-driven. With a deep appreciation for the outdoors and a commitment to supporting small businesses, he built Backwoods Barter to be more than just a marketplace—it’s a community for those who live for the hunt, the catch, and the adventure.
